This lovely Huipil top was made with 100% cotton using the backstrap loom weaving technique, meaning a lot of work and tradition. Very light and comfortable.
The Huipil (pronounced wee-peel) is the most common traditional garment worn by indigenous women from Mexico and Central America. It is a loose-fitting tunic, made from two rectangular pieces of fabric joined together, leaving an opening for the head and the openings for the arms.
The Huipil has been worn since pre-Hispanic times and it remains the most common indigenous garment for women still in use.
